Local Marketplace Services

Buy Local, Sell Local, Keep Value on the Island

Service Summary

The Corfu Local Marketplace is an online trading platform built exclusively for island residents and businesses. It enables locals to buy and sell goods directly with one another — from handmade crafts and fresh produce to second-hand furniture and everyday essentials — removing the need for expensive middlemen and large external platforms.

What the Marketplace Is?

Think of it as Corfu’s own trading square — a digital version of the weekly market, but open every day of the year.

Whether you grow olives and want to sell to neighbours, make ceramics and want to reach visitors planning their next trip, or simply have a sofa you no longer need, the Marketplace gives you a trusted, island-specific place to do it.

Unlike large national platforms where Corfu listings get lost among millions of others or just disappear, this Marketplace is designed to surface local goods to local buyers — and to international visitors who want to buy something authentic before or after their trip.

What You Can Buy and Sell

Citizen-to-citizen trading:

  • Second-hand household goods, furniture, tools, and equipment
  • Locally grown produce: vegetables, fruit, olive oil, honey, herbs, and seasonal specialities
  • Handmade crafts, art, jewellery, and gifts
  • Bikes, vehicles, boats, and sporting equipment
  • Books, clothing, electronics, and everyday item

The Sustainability Cause

The Marketplace is not just a commercial tool — it is a sustainability engine for the island.

By enabling residents to buy and sell locally, it directly reduces the need to import goods from outside Corfu, cuts unnecessary packaging and shipping, and encourages circular consumption habits that are better for the environment.

A resident who buys a second-hand bookshelf from a neighbour, or a jar of local honey from a producer in the next village, is making a choice that benefits the whole island.

*Listings Plus* - Concierge (optional)

For local producers and artisans:

  • A dedicated shop page with photos, descriptions, and pricing
  • Direct sales to residents and to visitors browsing the platform from home before they arrive
  • Order management, buyer messaging, and review collection
  • Seasonal promotion tools to push products at the right time of year
  • Integration with the Business Directory for producers who also want a full business profile

Why This Matters for the Community

  • Keeps money on the island: Every transaction between Corfu residents means income stays within the island economy rather than flowing to external platforms
  • Supports small producers: Local food growers, artisans, and crafts people gain direct access to customers without agency fees or commission
  • Reduces waste: Second-hand and circular trading extends the life of goods and reduces the island’s environmental footprint
  • Builds community trust: All buyers and sellers are verified Corfu Local members, creating a safer, more accountable trading environment than anonymous national platforms
